How to Host a Friend-Raiser

One of the many ways Represent PA introduces new people to the mission of the organization and encourages them to invest in our candidates is through what we call “Friend-Raisers.”

Friend-Raisers are house parties sponsored and hosted by friends of Represent PA and attended by a network of their friends and neighbors. These events can be as small as 12 people or as large as 150, depending on the space available.

A recent Friend-Raiser held on May 26 brought nearly 100 people to the Wyndmoor home of Peggy and Rich Greenawalt. Over 25 of the hosts’ friends and neighbors sponsored the event. Introductory remarks were made by host Peggy Greenawalt and Represent PA Executive Director Christine Jacobs. Special guests State Representative Donna Bullock and State Senator Katie Muth shared some of their experiences as legislators and spoke passionately about why it’s so important to elect more Democratic women to the PA Legislature.

Also on hand to mingle, answer questions and encourage donations to support the work of Represent PA were candidates Cathy Spahr (HD-160, Chester/Delaware), Lisa Borowski (HD-168, Delaware), Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz (HD-129, Berks), Jill Dennin (SD-24, Berks, Montgomery) and Ann Marie Mitchell (SD-6, Bucks) as well as legislators Nancy Guenst (HD-152, Montgomery/Philadelphia) and Amanda Cappelletti (SD-17, Montgomery). This was one of our larger Friend-Raisers and it succeeded in raising over $80,000!

There are many ways to volunteer and support Represent PA. Consider hosting a Friend-Raiser to help spread the word and expand our network of supporters. We’ve put together a toolkit that can help you get started.
