All children in Pennsylvania have the right to a high-quality and thorough public education. This isn’t just an opinion – it’s the law, written into the PA Constitution in the 1870s. Yet in our state, many children don’t receive the resources needed for success in school and beyond.
On March 9 at 8:30 AM join Represent PA and hear from Senator Lindsey Williams (SD-38, Allegheny), Democratic Chair of the Senate Education Committee, and Deborah Gordon Klehr, Executive Director of the Education Law Center, a non-profit legal advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring access to a quality public education for all children in Pennsylvania.
We’ll discuss the need for more funding, the drain on funding by charter schools and the proposed Full Funding Plan, as well as the ongoing case currently being tried in the PA Commonwealth Court that challenges the constitutionality of our lackluster school funding system.
The school funding lawsuit argues that Pennsylvania’s method of funding public education is so inadequate and inequitable that it violates the state constitution.
This Breakfast Briefing will be moderated by Christine Jacobs, Executive Director of Represent PA. Consider inviting your friends and neighbors to listen in and learn more about public education funding in our state, and how to join Represent PA in support of a more reflective democracy.
These Briefings benefit from participant questions. If you plan to join us, please send any questions you might have in advance to info@representpa.org
