Represent! PAC Endorses 18 Women For PA Legislative Seats
March 31, 2016
PHILADELPHIA—REPRESENT! PAC, Pennsylvania’s only political action committee focused on investing significant and early resources in Democratic women candidates, today announced 18 endorsements for the for the Pennsylvania legislature.
“Represent PAC is excited to endorse these 18 women for election this April,” Represent PAC co-founder Aubrey Montgomery said. “This year’s candidates reflect a diversity of experience, background, and geography, and each of them would provide much-needed leadership in Harrisburg.”
Represent! PAC endorsed nine incumbents to ensure those women retain the seats they already hold: Rep. Leslie Acosta (PA-197), Rep. Donna Bullock (PA-195), Tonyelle Cook-Artis (PA-200), Rep. Mary Jo Daley (PA-148), Rep. Madeleine Dean (PA-153), Rep. Pam DeLissio (PA-194), Rep. Patty Kim (PA-103), Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky (PA-161), Rep. Joanna McClinton, (PA-191), and Sen. Judy Schwank (SD-11). Both Rep. Bullock and Rep. Krueger-Braneky were first elected with Represent PAC’s support.
Represent! PAC also endorsed eight additional candidates: Damary M. Bonilla (PA-189), Morgan Cephas (PA-192), Carolyn Comitta (PA-156), Diane Cornman-Levy (PA-168), Barbarann Keffer (PA-163), Elaine Paul Schaefer (PA-165), Mary Popovich (PA-58) and Linda Weaver (PA-150).
Each of these candidates demonstrated a commitment to increasing the number of women seeking office, and several referenced being specifically recruited by incumbent members of the legislature. Women currently hold fewer than 20 percent of the seats in Harrisburg.
“I am almost always the only woman in the room when substantive and impactful decisions are made for our community,” endorsed candidate and Radnor Commissioner Elaine Paul Schaefer said. “My own decision to run was heavily influenced by an encouraging incumbent [Represent! PAC candidate Leanne Krueger-Braneky], and I would hope to emulate that influence on other women.”
Endorsed candidates receive financial, organizational, and other strategic support from Represent! PAC.

2016 Candidate Endorsement Questionnaire Available
February 19, 2016
Each election cycle, Represent reviews endorsement applications of Democratic women seeking elected office, and chooses candidates to support with significant early financial contributions and various other types of non-financial resources such as professional services.
Represent raises money through its supporters and their networks to provide early investments in races where a woman candidate has demonstrated the capacity to win and supports progressive policy values. Represent is uniquely situated in Pennsylvania politics: it is the only women-focused political organization giving significant early campaign investments so women candidates can increase the capacity and reach of their campaigns.
Represent-endorsed candidates include current State Representatives Leanne Krueger-Braneky and Donna Bullock. In addition, we endorsed seven candidates in 2014 and made contributions ranging from $500 to $5,000 to their campaigns.
If you would like to be considered for endorsement, please fill out the questionnaire electronically, and submit it to Melissa via email at Melissa@RittenhousePolitical.com no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, March 4th. If you would like funds before the April 26th Primary Election, please submit your application before this March 4th deadline. There will be another round of applications available later in the cycle.
Heather Arnet First Candidate from Western PA Endorsed by Represent! PAC
October 1, 2015
On October 1st, REPRESENT! PAC, Pennsylvania’s only organization focused on giving significant, early campaign contributions to women candidates, endorsed Heather Arnet for Pennsylvania’s 37th Senate District. She faces Republican Guy Reschenthaler in the November special election.
“Heather Arnet has spent her career working for families as a committed, progressive, experienced non-profit professional,” said Represent co-founder and board member Kerri Kennedy. “Heather has a proven capacity for affecting change and will be a tireless advocate for her community and Democrats in PA. We are excited to endorse her and have the opportunity to support another strong woman in Harrisburg.”
Arnet’s commitment to helping others has its foundation in both personal and professional experiences. Raised by a single mother, Arnet took on four jobs to put herself through college, and made a career of serving others. She served as the CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation for the past twelve years, working to increase opportunities for working American families.
“I will be a legislator who puts families first when making policy decisions. That’s what I have done my whole career. From my first college job working at Mister Rogers Neighborhood, to the last twelve years working for the Women and Girls Foundation, I have been proud to support public education, public health, the rights of workers, and policies that enhance the economic security of working families,” Arnet said.
Arnet is the first Western Pennsylvania and first Senate candidate to be endorsed by Represent. The endorsement coincides with the launch of the Western PA arm of Represent, extending the PAC’s reach beyond Eastern Pennsylvania races. Both occasions will be celebrated at a launch eventtonight, featuring Arnet as a special guest.
The 37th Senate District is currently vacant, after former Senator Matt Smith resigned to join the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce.
Endorsed Candidate Donna Bullock Wins Special Election
August 12, 2015
The good news continues as we are excited to say we will be sending another progressive woman to Harrisburg! Donna Bullock in Philadelphia's 195th district handedly beat her Republican opponent.
This was a great pick up for women and an opportunity for Democrats to show their strength in Philadelphia during a special election in August. You can congratulate Donna through their twitter accounts @donnabullock195 or her Facebook page.
We've worked hard this Summer to take advantage of vacancies left in local seats, and if the Special Elections held over the past two weeks are any indication, we are on our way to making a real change in Harrisburg.
Represent is proud to have supported Donna, and we are excited to continue to send progressive women to Harrisburg. Thank you to all of Represent's donors and activists - we hope you'll continue to stay involved this year. Each election is an opportunity to advance Democratic women in PA's government, and we look forward to your continued support in that mission.

After we celebrate tonight, tomorrow we are back to work. Next Tuesday is another special election and Represent-endorsed Donna Bullock is running in Philadelphia's 195th district. We are excited about the additional opportunity this race offers Pennsylvania to send a strong woman candidate to represent us in Harrisburg.

REPRESENT! Endorses 7 Women Candidates in 2014 PA State House Races
PHILADELPHIA, PA – REPRESENT! Political Action Committee (PAC) issued its first set of endorsements for Democratic women candidates running for State House offices across Pennsylvania in the November 4, 2014 general election. All the endorsed candidates are strong, progressive Democratic women who are leaders in their respective fields and are committed to bringing sustainable, progressive change to our State Legislature. Represent! will be providing financial support to each endorsed candidate, and will work with each candidate on joint fundraising events this fall.
“Over the past year, we have seen repeated failures of our State Government to prioritize our children, our communities, our economy, and our environment. The women we are endorsing can do better for our state. It is not a coincidence that there are more women running for State House seats in 2014 than ever before. Our endorsements are our first step of making strategic investments to elect progressive women to the State Legislature.” said Kerri Kennedy, Co-Founder and President of REPRESENT! PAC. “Our endorsed candidates have demonstrated their ongoing support for progressive issues, including reproductive freedom, support for public education, protection of our natural resources and expanding opportunities for all Pennsylvania families to thrive.”
REPRESENT! PAC was founded to increase the number of progressive Democratic women in elected office in Pennsylvania by providing financial investments in strong women candidates who have demonstrated the capacity to win. In Pennsylvania, no other group is focusing solely on raising the critical money that helps women candidates go from a strong contender to a newly elected official in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania consistently ranks in the bottom 10 in the nation for the overall number of women in elected office. The Commonwealth ranks 39th for number of women in State Legislatures with only 17% female representation in the General Assembly, fewer than the number of women elected officials in Afghanistan, China or Mexico. Pennsylvania has never elected a female Senator or Governor.
Represent! was created to address this deficit in Pennsylvania and to foster a legislature which reflects all the talents in our state.. “We need a State Government that is more representative of Pennsylvania communities – we need more women, more minorities, more working and middle class folks -- so that that policy decisions about how to grow and support our State will be made with the necessary voices and perspectives at the table,” said Rebecca Johnson, Co-Founder and Treasurer.
Candidate Karen Chellew notes that “women have been underrepresented since the founding days of Pennsylvania’s democracy. I am honored and excited to work with Represent! to change this status quo. I look forward to providing a balanced perspective and an authentic representation of the people in my voting district. Thank you REPRESENT! for your strong efforts in PA.”
